Sgian the Brownie, a dedication, and information about Brownies
Sgian is a brownie I met in 2007. He currently resides in my room from time to time that is roughly 3000 years old (in human years he is actually much older). Mr. Sgian is invisible to human sight, but through my mind-eye's am I able to see him.
Of course, Sgian is not his real name, but it is the name he's adopted. Fae do not just go around telling folks their real name because there is power in it. Sgian is a name that he allows me to call him, because well, he likes it!
Sgian is Gaelic for 'knife'. (Yes like sgian-dubh.) His personality is that of a sharp one. He's open, honest, has a smartass mouth and he is also very kind and loving around me, and polite to strangers. Sgian for a while had been an active loyal member of the Autumn Court eons ago until he dealt with some very brutal turn of events and on leave to become my guardian. Quite recently he has been called back and forth from Faerie to continue unfinished business. Faerie politics are difficult...
Sgian spends his free time being a creep at nighttime, and reading my conversations with people, enjoying delicious honey milk, and of course being outside or going to local fae meetings/festivities in the neighborhood and city.
Now that you've you learned about Sgian, here's some general things about brownies.
Brownies (also known as Urisks), a type of hobgoblin, appear only at night to perform various deeds around ones room or home, as well as play some nighttime pranks. Duh. Brownies never allow themselves to be seen by mortals in sheer view, so don't look for them. You just know they're there. You don't hear about them much these days.. If you are blessed enough to have resident Brownie respect him/her/them and leave out offerings.
Brownies are various shades of brown, very short, petite in frame, and their complexions range from tan to dark chocolate. Their hair colors can be mahogany to dirty brown. It is usually messy, unruly hair to just wavy, but it can also be somewhat straight (like Sgian's). Brownies can have toothy grins, or dull teeth. A brownie's eyes are usually brown, ebony, red (like berries), or maroon. They wear little caps of various earth tone colors and they are also very comely in appearance, with wrinkles or deep lines in their faces~ Heh. Mr. Sgian is quite the cutie.
They are about two to four feet high (depending on their age) and dress in brown clothes. Brownies make themselves responsible for for the house where they live by coming out at night to complete unfinished work. Any offer of reward will drive them away, but they expect an occasional bowl of milk and piece of cake to be left out. Tradition says they do not like teetotallers and ministers. If offended, brownies will create malicious mishchief. If there is a lazy servant in the home, he might choose to plague him for it. All Brownies expect in return is a bowl of cream or good milk and a honey cake. Never leave clothes and never leave too much food. They find this offensive and will leave. Care should be taken not to criticize their work. When one farmer criticized the mowing job, the Brownie responsible threw the entire crop over a cliff. In the West County, Pixies or Pigsies occasionally perform the office of a brownie and show some of the same characteristics, though they are essentially different. Border brownies are most characteristic. They are small [people], about three feet in height, very raggedly dressed in brown clothes, with brown faces and shaggy heads. They make themselves responsible for the farm or house in which they live: reap, mow, thresh, herd the sheep, prevent the hens from laying away, and give goode counsel at need. A brownie can become personally attached to one member of the family. (*cough, cough, hint, hint*)

Fae do have minds, feelings, and personalities of their own just like humans. Fae are fickle. Mr. Sgian is even far from Brown sugar, spice, and everything nice.
